Detroit ‘Teacher Of The Month’ Fired For Having A Rap Career

Written by on March 24, 2024

Domonique Brown, a Metro Detroit U.S. history teacher known as Drippin Honey in her rap career, was fired from Taylor Preparatory High School after a parent objected to her musical endeavors. Despite being celebrated as “Teacher of the Month,” Brown’s dual role sparked controversy, leading to her dismissal in October 2023. Brown, who has dedicated seven years to education and is pursuing higher degrees, defended her right to pursue personal interests outside of teaching, stating her professionalism and dedication to her students remained intact. She faced administrative pushback without receiving the complaint in writing and suggested the parent observe her teaching to witness her commitment firsthand. Brown argues that her dismissal is a form of discrimination, highlighting her efforts to support her students beyond the classroom. Her popularity among students was evident when several appeared in a music video she filmed after her termination.
