It’s been 2 weeks since NASCAR has banned the confederate flag from its events. Now there is a federal investigation being launched to find out who is responsible for putting a noose in the garage of Bubba Wallace, the only Black driver in the league.
NASCAR President Steve Phelps released a statement at a news briefing, saying:
“We won’t tolerate it. They won’t be here. I don’t care who they are, they won’t be here.”
The Department of Justice is launching an investigation “to determine whether there are violations of federal law,” U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town said in a statement.
The noose was discovered Sunday at the Talladega Superspeedway in the #43 garage where only essential personnel were allowed to be.
Bubba Wallace has been pushing for the removal of the confederate flag for some time now. He released a statement, saying:
“This will not break me, I will not give in nor will I back down,” he said. “I will continue to proudly stand for what I believe in.”
