Cynthia Erivo Calls Out Fan-Edited ‘Wicked’ Poster for Erasing Her Image
Written by Site Hub on October 18, 2024
Cynthia Erivo expressed her frustration over a fan-edited “Wicked” poster that altered her image, calling the changes “deeply hurtful.” In an Instagram Story posted on October 16, 2024, Erivo criticized the fan-made version for covering her eyes and changing her expression, which she felt diminished her role as Elphaba in the upcoming film. She compared the edit to other offensive fan content, including AI-generated images, and emphasized that such changes degrade her and others involved in the project.
Erivo explained that the original poster, released by Universal Pictures, featured her character looking directly into the camera, symbolizing connection with the audience. By altering this, she felt the fan edit erased her presence. She reposted the original poster to “cleanse the palette” and remind fans of its intended significance. “Wicked,” directed by Jon M. Chu, is set for release on November 22, 2024.
