Construction Worker In Ithaca Falls 50 ft Into Dumpster And Lives

Written by on December 15, 2020

A little after 5 pm on Monday, the Ithaca Police Department, Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance responded to a call at 709 W. Court Street for a person injured in a fall.

The call was for a worker who fell five stories from the roof of a building that is currently in construction. Miraculously, he landed in a dumpster and survived. The 37 year old man reportedly fell somewhere between 45 – 55 feet and landed on debris that cushioned his fall.

The first responders had to work to remove the debris, secured him to a back board with a cervical collar and splinted his injured arm as they removed him from the dumpster. The weather was bad, so helicopter medical evacuation wouldn’t work. Bangs Ambulance drove the victim to the Robert Packer Trauma Center in Sayer, Pennsylvania.

Its hard to say what caused the accident, the City of Ithaca has said that witnesses say the worker was wearing fall protection but may have unclipped himself to go home for the day and slipped.

There is an investigation underway to see what really happened.
