Confederate Statue Pulled Down In D.C.
Written by Site Hub on June 22, 2020
Local Washington D.C. Council members have been campaigning for the removal of a Confederate statue of Albert Pike since the early 1990’s but that process was finally sped up on Juneteenth, when a crowd of people used ropes to pull Pike down.
Albert Pike was a traitor to his nation and fought to preserve slavery during the American Civil War.
The protestors later set fire to the statue. At that point, President Donald Trump took notice and shamed the D.C. Police for not doing their jobs in a tweet from the white house.
The rest of the day was filled with remembrance and ceremony while the citizens of Washington D.C. celebrated the day that slavery was ended in the USA.
