Community Members Share Hopes for New York’s Next Chapter

Written by on August 11, 2021

In just a short of two weeks, New York will have a new leader. Yesterday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his resignation as governor, serving for over 10 years. He called Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul smart and competent and says the transition must be seamless. Kathy Hochul will be the state’s first female governor and the first governor from Western New York in more than 130 years, as she is originally from Buffalo, NY.

Locals are hopeful for this transition, local Chuck Barone hopes her background as an upstate New Yorker means more communities will be heard; “A lot of people feel like there’s New York and kind of the rest of us and that’s kind of the way it’s been governed the years that I’ve been here. So looking for more of that unity where we are all a part of the problem and find a solution.”

Kathy Hochul is expected to address New Yorkers today at 2 p.m. in Albany.
