Colin Kaepernick is a former football player, most known for his peaceful protest at his football games, in order to bring awareness to police brutality against African Americans. His protest consisted of kneeling during the national anthem, which garnered a lot of controversies. The public had opposing reactions to his protest, some people commended Kaepernick for his actions, and others condemned him. In an interview, Kaepernick stated, “I am not going to stand for a country that oppresses black people and people of color”.

Other players began to take a knee in solidarity with Kaepernick as well, however, after his release from his contact with the 49’s back in 2017, the kneeling seemed to die down and Colin Kapernick remains unsigned to any NFL teams to this day. There is speculation this happened because of his protest.

Kapernick has announced that he’ll be releasing a memoir to give insight on the motivations for his activism in this cause. In a press release, Kaepernick states “I want to tell the story of my evolution, and events that led me to protest systematic oppression, in hopes that it will inspire others to rise in action.” He intends to inspire black and brown people, as well as empower them to use their voices to create positive change in the world.
