You may get a ticket if you do not wear your seatbelt when riding in the backseat of a vehicle in New York State.
A new bill that will require a person over the age of 16 to wear a seatbelt when riding in the back seat has passed the Senate and State Assembly in Albany.
The bill passed Tuesday and will now go to the desk of Governor Andrew Cuomo for his signature.
This new law would allow local and state police officers to give you a ticket if you do not have your seat belt on in the back seat no matter your age.
Supporters of the bill say the new law will protect passengers from risk of serious injury no matter where they are sitting in the vehicle.
