Child dies after falling through ice pond in Yates County

In the Town of Milo, Yates County, an eight-year-old boy died after falling through the ice on a pond, according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on Bath Road just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Penn Yan firefighters responded to the scene, using cold-water rescue suits to recover the child from the icy water. CPR was immediately administered, and the boy was transported to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital. Despite rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

The victim’s name has not been released, and authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The event serves as a somber reminder of the dangers posed by thin ice during the winter months.
