CeeLo Teases new Goodie Mob album

Written by on April 30, 2020

With four seasons as a judge on NBC’s hit show The Voice and a string of successful solo records under his belt, it’s fair to say that CeeLo Green has cemented his status as a part of American pop culture.

However, before Green took a pop-friendly approach to soul music, he played an important part as an architect of the 90s’ Southern hip-hop sound which has now been eclipsed by his solo pop stardom. His previous outfit – the Goodie Mob – recently had an episode of ‘Unsung’ aired. The show focuses on underappreciated or overlooked bands and artists.

It’s likely that many of Green’s mainstream fans will be unaware of his previous Goodie Mob efforts – although in a recent interview to promote his forthcoming solo album ‘CeeLo Green is… Thomas Calloway’, the ‘Crazy’ singer hinted that a return may be on the cards for his former outfit.

Addressing the Goodie Mob reunion rumors, Green stated that the group was tentatively hoping to release new material “this August”, but also acknowledged that the “future is unwritten” with regard to any live performances or long-term plans.

However, Green went on to state that Goodie Mob would maintain the “soulful kind of flexibility” showcased on the group’s 1995 debut ‘Soul Food’ – and the news has sparked renewed interest in the Southern hip-hop master’s back catalog.
