CDC Recommends Pfizer COVID-19 Booster for Ages 12 and Up

Yesterday, the CDC announced the authorization of adolescents ages 12-17 to receive a Pfizer-BioNTech booster shot five months after their initial series of immunizations. This decision comes from just hours after a panel of CDC advisers voted 13-1 in favor of the recommendation. Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is the only approved vaccine for these ages.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky stated: “It is critical that we protect our children and teens from COVID-19 infection and the complications of severe disease. This booster dose will provide optimized protection against COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. I encourage all parents to keep their children up to date with CDC’s COVID-19 vaccine recommendations.”
