CDC Is Re-Examining Its Social Distancing Guidelines For Classrooms

In an effort to push the reopening of in-person education, the CDC has deemed it safe enough update the social distancing area from 6 ft to 3 ft for elementary schools and some high schools, as long as they wear a mask.
Before they made this adjustment, the rule was that students had to be seated 6 ft apart to minimize the possible chance of transmission. This measure became a huge road block for school districts that were trying to come up with a re opening plan where students would be able to learn in-person.
Reports indicate that a number of public health experts and parents alike are grateful for the new guidelines, as many Democratic states have been using the 6 ft rule as a metric on whether or not to consider re opening schools.
Dr. Westyn Branch-Elliman, an infectious-disease specialist at the VA Boston Healthcare System confirmed this stance, saying:
“The reality is that the biggest barrier to getting kids back in school was this question of three versus six feet.”
