CDC Announces Mask Mandate For Public Transportation Starting Monday
Written by Site Hub on January 30, 2021
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued an order requiring anyone using public transportation to wear a face mask. This includes busses, cars, trains, taxis, boats or public ride sharing utilities while traveling into, out of or through the U.S.
The order will go into effect on 11:59 pm on Monday and the CDC has provided additional guidelines on how the mask should be worn.
Both the nose and mouth must be covered while waiting, boarding, traveling and disembarking. The masks themselves must be two or more layers of breathable fabric and need to be secured to the head with ties, ear loops or elastic bands.
They add that they reserve the right to enforce the rule with criminal penalties but but they “strongly encourage and anticipate widespread voluntary compliance.”
