Written by on March 25, 2021

Comedian/Radio Jock Rob Lederman is “toast” after making racist comments on Buffalo’s 97 Rock’s  morning show. According to a press release, parent company Cumulus Media “swiftly terminated him and suspended the remainder of the show’s talent on-air talent” for violating the company’s clearly defined programming principles Wednesday morning.

He also lost his gig as the in-arena host for the Sabres and the Buffalo Bandits according to Pegula Sports & Entertainment.

In case you missed the tea on-air with Jazzy T, it all started when Rob shared a story about his daughter changing the settings on the toaster, causing him to burn his toast.

A viral clip of the on-air conversation starts as Rich “The Bull” proclaims he likes his toast cooked at a level 7.

Rob on the other hand, likes a “mulatto” type toast.

I’m serious! Listen to how he compares Black women he considers attractive, to pieces of toast!

“I will never be comfortable with a Serena Williams level” he tells his co-hosts. “I need a little bit of mulatto still coming through”, he says.

As the audio started to gain traction on twitter, two major advertisers Roswell Park and West Herr pulled ads from 97 Rock!

Roswell Park and the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation said they pulled marketing affiliations with the station, including advertising and sponsorship. Below is their full statement.

Immediately upon learning about this exchange, Roswell Park, the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation and the Ride for Roswell pulled all ads and marketing from this station. The comments this morning conflict with our values and culture. We embrace actions that respect the dignity and equity of all people, and forcefully reject any and all forms of racism.

Rich “The Bull” Gaenzler’s is also facing consequences for not pulling the plug on his co-host. He’s being kicked out of UB Athletics.

“The University at Buffalo Division of Athletics is committed to sustaining a culture of diversity and inclusion and strongly denounces racism in all forms. Rich Gaenzler is not currently under contract with UB Athletics. We will move forward with selection of another public address announcer for UB football games next season.”
