Denver Broncos’ Brandon Marshall has lost his second endorsement deal for joining the protest with Colin Kaepernick. The first endorsement he lost was right after Thursday’s game when Air Academy Federal Credit Union announced their separation from Marshall.
According to BallerAllert.com cable provider CenturyLink, on Monday made the decision to pull Marshall’s endorsement. The company released the following statement. “America is anchored in the right of individuals to express their beliefs. While we acknowledge Brandon’s right, we also believe that whatever issues we face, we also occasionally must stand together to show our allegiance to our common bond as a nation. In our view, the national anthem is one of those moments. For this reason, while we wish Brandon the best this season, we are politely terminating our agreement with him.”
SMH…. The contradiction in that statement!
So let me get this right…… You want to penalize someone for taking a stance on the unjust treatment of people (who are black) in America… Okay, cool. I could throw out the “if he were white and decided to sit or kneel this wouldn’t be the case” but I’ll leave that where it is and just keep it all the way real for you. There have been plenty of players who have done a lot worse and still were able to keep their endorsements… Shall I give examples??.. Tom Brady.
In fact, the NFL at one point didn’t allow a single black player to play from 1933-1946. The only reason the NFL allowed black players to play was because the L.A. Rams faced pressure from local black newspapers and the city’s stadium commission after the team relocated from Cleveland.
In order to create change you must take a stand for what you believe in and that is exactly what Brandon Marshall, Colin Kaepernick and others in the league are doing. So if companies continue to drop player endorsements cool, keep up the good work! Remember what one won’t do another will and when that money starts to slow down you’ll come running back but guess what?! WE won’t be where you left us!
Brandon Marshall’s response was perfect!.. “I just lost another endorsement…. “But it’s not going to make me lose any sleep. … I understand there will be things that come up, criticism and support. I just have to do what I think is right.”
Keep strong Brandon we’ve got your back!
