Black Trump supporter and former felon runs for Congress against John Lewis

Casting her controversial hat into the political ring, Angela Stanton-King has officially registered as a Republican candidate for Georgia’s 5th Congressional District. Her choice of political parties may have raised a few eyebrows, but the fact that she’s a former felon really upped the ante.
Stanton-King’s status as a “former” felon should be expanded to include another descriptive word – she’s a “pardoned” felon. President Trump pardoned her in February 2020 for a six-month home confinement sentence from her 2007 stolen vehicle conviction.
Any candidate who runs against Representative John Lewis is up against the legacy of a towering civil rights leader who has held his seat in Congress since 1987. Georgia’s 5th Congressional District covers much of metro Atlanta, including a demographic of close to 60 percent black voters. But Stanton-King says that her choice to run for Congress “isn’t about replacing John Lewis, this is about picking up the torch and continuing the fight for justice.”
Stanton-King brings zero political experience to the table. Speaking of Lewis, Stanton-King notes her “utmost respect for the contributions that he has made to Black America.” But she advocates the rights of unborn babies by saying her goal is to “continue to fight for justice for Black America, and also help people understand that our unborn babies deserve justice as well.”
