Apple Agrees To Pay Settlement Over 2016 Software Update That Deliberately Slowed Down Older iPhones

Apple will reportedly pay out a $133 million settlement to 34 states over its previous practice of slowing down older iPhones on purpose.

States like California and Arizona were not okay with Apple’s lack of transparency about its iPhone battery problems that made the devices shutdown unexpectedly.

Rather than letting users know that there was a problem, Apple released a software update in 2016 that made the older iPhone’s slow down.

“Big Tech companies must stop manipulating consumers and tell them the whole truth about their practices and products,” said Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, who helped lead the investigation, in a press release on Thursday. “I’m committed to holding these goliath technology companies accountable when they conceal important information from users.”
