Written by on April 26, 2021

On Friday evening, an unidentified assailant in New York City attacked a 61-year-old Asian man, leaving him fighting for his life. The victim has not been identified. Currently, the crime is being looked at under review as a hate crime. However, there was a surveillance video released by the New York City Police Department’s Hate Crime Task Force, where the victim can be seen being pushed to the ground by the unidentified attacker, who then kicks him in the head multiple times.

While the NYPD has yet to determine if the victim was targeted because of his race, there have been dozens of Asian hate crime cases around the country, especially over the past year. Asain Hate crimes increased in more than a dozen major cities in 2020. President Biden has spoken out against the attacks and recently he has stated “We can’t be silent in the face of rising violence against Asian Americans. These attacks are wrong, un-American, and must stop.”
