Wally Funk, who trained for NASA’s Mercury program, was denied going to space a half-century ago. However, she just found out she will finally have the opportunity to go to space.
Jeff Bezos picked Funk to join himself, his brother and an as-yet known auction winner to join them on a suborbital trip July 20th.
CNN reported:
“Blue Origin announced Thursday that the 82-year-old will take the fourth spot on the inaugural crewed flight of its New Shepard suborbital spacecraft, alongside Blue Origin founder Bezos, his brother Mark Bezos and the winner of an auction who forked over $28 million for the opportunity.”
Bezos posted on Instagram and explained Funk will be going to space as an “honored” guest. The post captures Funk and Bezos moments after Funk found out she has been selected.
