‘American Idol’ Alum and Grammy Winning Gospel Singer Mandisa Dead at 47

Mandisa Hundley, a celebrated gospel singer and former contestant on “American Idol,” has died at age 47 in her Nashville home. Known simply as Mandisa, her musical journey gained significant momentum after her participation in the fifth season of “American Idol” in 2006, where she finished in the top nine. Her performance on the show helped her launch a successful career in the Christian music industry. Mandisa’s debut album, “True Beauty,” released in 2007, topped the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart and featured the hit single “Only the World.” She went on to release several more albums, including “Freedom,” “What If We Were Real,” and “Out of the Dark,” which further established her as a prominent figure in gospel music. Mandisa’s contributions to music were recognized with numerous awards, including a Grammy. Her death was announced by the Christian rock radio station K-Love, although no cause of death has been disclosed.
