Airbnb Banning Indoor Security Cameras in Listings Worldwide

Written by on March 12, 2024

Airbnb is set to prohibit the use of indoor security cameras in its global listings by the end of the next month, aiming to streamline its security camera policies and enhance privacy. The decision comes after consultations with guests, hosts, and privacy experts, reflecting the platform’s commitment to adapting its policies to serve its global community’s needs. While the ban restricts cameras within the interior of properties, hosts will still be permitted to use doorbell cameras and noise-decibel monitors in common areas, provided they clearly disclose these devices in their listings. This policy revision is anticipated to affect a minimal number of hosts since the majority of Airbnb listings reportedly do not feature indoor security cameras. The new policy is scheduled to be implemented on April 30, following Airbnb’s recent report of increased bookings and revenue, indicating sustained demand for its services.
