Cheers to the new year! And what does a new year mean? Some new laws. From sports betting to Styrofoam, there are several laws that could impact your everyday life. Here are some of the following:

  • On December 31, the minimum wage increases to $13.20 from $12.50 as part of New York States’ plan to reach $15 an hour state-wide.
  • After the new year, your take-out will start to look slightly different as restaurants will no longer be able to use Styrofoam containers under the Expanded Polystyrene Foam Container and Polystyrene Loose Fill Packaging Ban.
  • BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, BetRivers, PointsBet, Resorts World, Bally Bet, and WynnBET mobile sporting app will be available just in time for the Super Bowl.
  • In the new year, insurance companies will not be able to charge pet owners different home insurance rates based on their dog’s breed.
