Having a Hard Time Finding a COVID-19 Test? Here’s Why

Written by on December 28, 2021

With the surge in COVID-19 and the omicron variant, many Americans are on the hunt for an at-home COVID test. Given the aftermath of the holidays, drugstore shelves are bare in many places, and states that have offered free over-the-counter tests have run out. With surges rolling across the country, prompting more hospital overcrowding, many are now calling on the Biden administration to increase the widespread availability of at-home tests.

Recently, the Biden administration recently pledged to buy half a billion rapid tests and mail them to U.S. households. They also pledged to distribute 50 million free at-home tests through libraries and clinics and according to the administration, people with private health insurance will soon be able to apply to get costs for the tests reimbursed. Based on this data, it is expected that more tests will be available soon, hopefully, before the new year.
