New York State Law Aims to Offer Fertility Education

Written by on August 28, 2021

Last month, a bill was signed into law in New York that aims to provide women with better access to information that can improve the quality of their care. This bill comes from just one year later when Amber Rose Isaac from the Bronx died after doctors at Montefiore Medical Center ignored her telling them that something was wrong. Isaac tweeted less than four days before passing during an emergency C-section: “Can’t wait to write a tell-all about my experience during my last two trimesters dealing with incompetent doctors at Montefiore.” Her son, Elias, survived and turned 1 this year.

The bill was sponsored by state Sen. Samra G. Brouk of Rochester, who is a member of the Senate Committee on Women’s Issues: “Infertility is a lot more prevalent than many people realize, yet so many women lack access to crucial information about the disorders that cause it. The signing of this bill means that more women in my community will have a greater awareness of, and be equipped to seek treatment for, infertility.”
