Bed-building event for children in need brings out dozens, ‘they have to know somebody cares’

Written by on July 11, 2021

Saturday morning, dozens gathered at the Memorial AME Zion Church parking lot to build beds for children in need.

This special event had help from local organizations, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Beyond the Sanctuary.

Rochester First stated:

“Organizers at this event say something as simple as a bed can make a difference in not just quality of life for a child, but self worth.”

Carmen Allen, an organizer with Beyond the Sanctuary stated:

“We’re providing volunteers to build these twin beds, we’re building 20 of them on our parking lot.”

Every volunteer that showed up to help yesterday morning played an important, impactful role.
