Lilac Festival Concerts have been Moved from a Free Outdoor Event to a Paid Indoor Event

The Lilac Festival as we know it will be a little different this year.  The festival is moving from a free outdoor event to a paid indoor event.  It will be three weekends long starting May 7th.  The festival will have the traditional Art in the Park, marathon fundraisers, and craft beer and wine expos.

However, there will be less food vendors and the live music events will be held indoors.  The tickets will be running for $100 and this is a concern for Monroe County legislator, Rachel Barnhart.

Barnhart said, “So I think in our effort to be really safe we’ve probably made some missteps. Not the fault of the local officials and the promoters. It’s really the fault of the state and federal governments.  We should have been encouraging the lilac festival to be a different festival then the one we’ve seen in the past, but the way they structured it this time, it’s rather exclusive.”
