Organizers Marched Through Rochester Last Night To Protest Grand Jury Decision

Yesterday, New York State Attorney General Letitia James told the public that a grand jury would not be charging any of the officers involved in the death of Daniel Prude.

Activists organized a march in response to this decision that began where Daniel Prude was killed by Rochester Police on Jefferson Ave. The march continued toward main street and onto 490 via the Child St. Ramp until the march ended at the Public Safety Building.

Shortly after midnight, the Monroe County Sheriff’s department declared the gathering unlawful and asked everyone to “disperse immediately or face arrest” and the crowd did so after some time.

Free the People ROC organizer Stanley Martin gave a statement to the media, saying:

“I think the most significant win is community, the community wins in the face of diversity. We kept them safe. I’ve called people, I’ve met in the streets and they have kept me safe. We know we can continue to keep us safe and we will continue to fight. Another win we have is the introduction of Daniel’s Law.”
