Thousands Demand Justice For Daniel Prude & Clash With Police Downtown

Late Friday evening, a peaceful protest that began as a rally to demand justice for Daniel Prude’s death at the hands of Rochester Police Officers.

Around 2000 people attended the rally, beginning at Martin Luther King Jr. Park and marching towards East Avenue at around 6:00pm. There were speeches from concerned citizens and Daniel Prude’s brother, Joe Prude.

As the demonstrators went down Court Street, they met a large police presence. At this point, an officer with a megaphone declared “Rochester police has deemed this an unlawful assembly.” Shortly after, the police used tear gas and pepper balls to break up the crowd.

Police reports show that 11 individuals were arrested and 3 officers were injured. There are also reports of small fires being set and fireworks being used against officers.

After these events took place, RPD Officers used tear gas to disperse the crowd.

On top of this, while protesters were holding up signs next to the road, several cars drove past, spraying a noxious substance. Reports also say a car hit multiple protestors before speeding away.
