Washington NFL Team Announces New Name

After saying for years that the team would never change its name, the NFL team formerly known as the Washington Redskins has announced that they have indeed changed their name to the “Washington Football Team.”
Pressure to change the name of the team came weeks ago, in response to the Black Lives Matter Movement. Confederate statues were being torn down, NASCAR banned the confederate flag and the time finally came for the team to change its name. Major corporate sponsors like Pepsi, Nike and FedEx said they would be pulling their funding if changes weren’t made, so after a few meetings, the Washington Football Team was reborn.
Many people took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the name change. For instance, basketball player LeBron James said:
“Just waking back up from my pregame nap to see about the Washington Football team??? Is that real?? No way! Oh man they had a through intense long board meeting about that one huh?”
