Be Smart & Be Safe Celebrating Memorial Day Weekend

As we approach Memorial Day in the United States most states will still have stay at home orders in place. However, with the weather here in Monroe County expected to reach 80 degrees with no rain people will want to be out and about.

Mayor Lovely Warren and RPD Chief LaRon Singletary urge city residents to practice social distancing and wear masks. They also said no gatherings of more than ten people at a time. Both the Mayor and RPD Chief want people to enjoy the holiday but be smart about it and protect your loved ones from the coronavirus.

RPD Chief Singletary said there will be a visible police presence at Ontario Beach Park (Charlotte Beach) and Durand Eastman Park. Pathways to Peace will also be present so people feel safe and to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Along with that, State Police will also be out cracking down on drinking and impaired driving. Alcohol sales have spiked dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic, at one point in March by 55% so if you are at home drinking – stay home.

State Troopers will be patrolling in marked and unmarked vehicles.  There will be multiple sobriety checkpoints throughout the city and county.
