Liquor distilleries and luxury product company offer to make hand sanitizers

Written by on March 20, 2020

In the entertainment industry, people often hear about companies creating trending celebrity alcoholic drinks and fragrances. The reality of a global pandemic is that retailers and vendors that distribute health and safety products start to run out of supplies as consumers hoard items and businesses, hospitals and others increase demand.

According to CNN, several distilleries in Georgia and North Carolina have announced that they will use their alcohol and facilities to combat the spread of COVID-19, including Old Fourth Distillery in Atlanta, Moonrise Distillery in Clayton and Durham Distillery in Durham. In France, LVMH, best known for Christian Dior, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton, announced on Sunday that it will begin production of hydroalcoholic gel on Monday, March 16, in three factories typically dedicated to making perfumes/colognes for Christian Dior, Givenchy and Guerlain. LVMH will provide French health officials and the Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris with the sanitizer free of charge for as long as it’s capable. LVMH estimates that it can produce 12 tons of hand sanitizer.

These types of sanitizers must have at least 60 per cent alcohol/ethanol to be effective. Health officials have continued to state though that the greatest defense against the spread of COVID-19 is social distancing, caution and regular handwashing with plain soap and water. Yet, hand sanitizers are the next best thing when soap isn’t available.
