Deaf Ex Rochester Student To Perform National Anthem at Super Bowl

Famous performance artist Christine Sun Kim will be performing both the National Anthem and America the Beautiful at the upcoming Super Bowl. Kim is a former student of the Rochester Institute of Technology/National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT/NTID)in Rochester. Kim graduated from RIT/NTID in 2002 with an undergrad degree in applied arts and sciences. She went on to attend the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree.

She was chosen by the National Association of the Deaf, as well as the National Football League, to give this performance. Kim will be performing America the Beautiful and the National Anthem in American sign language. The Super Bowl is being held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Kim is a member of the deaf community and a performance artist in Berlin. She communicates her experience in the deaf community through her work. It is a mixture of performance, drawing, technology, video, and writing. Her work is displayed in galleries worldwide, including Tokyo, Amsterdam, London, New York, and Los Angeles. The Super Bowl will be the largest audience Kim has ever performed in front of and she stated in an interview that she is honored to have been chosen.
