Gillibrand Calls For Recalls on All Inclined Infant Sleepers

After the release of a new study from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, New York State Senator Kristen Gillibrand (D) is calling for all retailers of inclined infant sleepers to remove these products from their shelves. She is also urging all owners of inclined sleepers to get rid of them as well.

According to the study, no infant sleep product with more than a 10 degree incline is safe for babies. Why? Because these sleepers can easily lead to suffocation. Inclined sleepers can allow for babies to roll onto a face down position and, unless they are able to get themselves back to a proper posture, this position can cause the child to suffocate. 

Gillibrand states, “It’s completely unacceptable that New Yorkers are still unknowingly using and buying dangerous inclined infant sleep products even though there is strong data showing these items are associated with infant deaths.”

Senator Gillibrand cosponsors the Safe Sleep Act of 2019. This bill states that “it is unlawful to manufacture, sell, or distribute inclined sleepers for infants. Specifically, inclined sleepers for infants are those designed for an infant up to one year old and have an inclined sleep surface of greater than 10 degrees.”
