Today Saturday, September 7th was an awesome day in the Rochester community. It was a day full of joy, peace, grace, and love at the Helping Hands Missionary Baptist Church located at 703 Joseph Avenue. The 4th annual Bridging the Gap community gathering hosted many local police officers and community members alike. The event got to showcase us as individuals coming together and focusing on a brighter future.
Pastor Donald Stevens, along with Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter, made it a day to remember. The community got a chance to sign up for tickets to see Fantasia and Robin Thick and some even won tickets for CARDI B on the spot! The kids had a ball in the bounce house and throwing around the football. My favorite part of the event had to be the great music and food. We got to hear classic gospel songs like “Something About the Name Jesus” and “Riverside”, which had the neighborhood in a praise break!
The deacons also did their thing on the grill providing ribs, burgers, hot dogs, corn, and more. I also really enjoyed the officers getting a chance to mingle with the neighbors, it felt great to see. Can’t wait to check in at the next WDKX Jam Squad event.
