Council Vice President McFadden Calls on Community to Help Victims of Thurston Road Fire

City Council Vice President Adam C. McFadden is calling on the Rochester community to help support the victims impacted by yesterday’s 5-alarm fire on Thurston Road.  Council Vice President McFadden, Monroe County Legislator LaShay Harris, and Zola Brown the President of the 19^th Ward Community Association are hosting a relief drive tomorrow, Wednesday, December 12^th from 1:00-7:00pm at Eclipse Bar and Lounge located at 372 Thurston Road. They are pleased to be joined by Home Leasing, the Rochester Housing Authority, WDKX 103.9 FM, the Red Cross, Foodlink, Monroe County Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Office Vital Records.

“It is my sincere hope that Rochester will come together to help their neighbors in need after this devastating fire.  All are encouraged to drop off clothes, food and hygiene products, and service providers are also invited to attend.  Residents who have been displaced because of the fire are welcome to join us tomorrow.  If they are not able to attend, we will get all donations to those in need,” said Vice President McFadden.  “Rochester has always been an incredibly generous community, it is my hope that this call to action will be no different.

“The Rochester community is known for its benevolence and generosity to worthy causes and I am confident that they will come through once again to help those residents who were displaced by this fire,” said Mayor Lovely Warren. “I sincerely thank the many people and organizations responsible for making this event possible and most importantly, to those who plan on making a donation.”

The Monroe County Clerk’s mobile DMV unit will be present to help replace any driver’s licenses, state ID cards, vehicle registration documents or titles lost in the fire. “Our friends and neighbors at 440 Thurston have been dealt a tremendous blow, especially so close to the holidays,” said County Clerk Adam Bello.  “I’m grateful for this opportunity to stand with my partners in government and local nonprofits to help people recover from this terrible fire.”

“In times of crisis, the kindness of good-hearted neighbors in our community knows no geographic, municipal, or political bounds,” said Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo. “To extend a helping hand to those impacted by the Thurston Road fire, Monroe County is proud to be making resources from our Office of Vital Records available to residents who lost important personal documents in the blaze. I thank City Council, County Legislator LaShay Harris, the DMV, and all of our partners who are stepping up to help those who need it.”
