All Charges Against Jussie Smollett Dropped

Written by on March 27, 2019

According to prosecutors, the 16 counts of disorderly conduct against Jussie Smollett have been dropped and his record wiped clean. A judge even granted a motion to seal the case!

Whoa, wait a minute… let’s recap.

On January 29, 2019 the world was shaken by the news that beloved “Empire” actor, Jussie Smollett had been the victim of a vicious hate crime. He claimed two white men wearing “Make America Great Again” hats attacked him, poured bleach on him, put a noose around his neck, and yelled racist and homophobic slurs.

Just a few weeks later Smollett was arrested after new evidence found that he himself was actually behind the hate crime; which he used as a publicity stunt to boost his career and pay. He was released from “Empire” the next day, and pleaded not guilty to 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct just two weeks ago.

Now after allllllllll this the case has been dropped like a bad habit in return for community service and $10,000 bail… and no one can really pinpoint why. In his own defense, Smollett stated,

“[I have been] truthful and consistent on every single level since day one. I would not be my mother’s son if I was capable of one drop of what I’ve been accused of. This has been an incredibly difficult time, honestly one of the worst of my entire life. But I am a man of faith and I am a man that has knowledge of my history and I would not bring my family, our lives or the movement through a fire like this. I just wouldn’t.”

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office believed it to be “a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case,” but the Chicago Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, strongly disagree with the judgement, calling it “a whitewash of justice.”
