Lil Wayne recently addressed his feelings about Kendrick Lamar headlining the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, which stirred controversy since the event will take place in Wayne’s hometown of New Orleans. During an appearance on The Skip Bayless Show on December 16, Wayne clarified that while he was initially disappointed, he holds no resentment toward Kendrick. The rapper shared that Kendrick referenced him on “Wacced Out Murals,” the opener of his recent project GNX, rapping about being inspired by Tha Carter III and feeling a sense of irony in the situation.
Wayne revealed that he and Kendrick spoke over the phone, with Wayne expressing his support and wishing Kendrick “all the best” for the performance. He emphasized that Kendrick “can’t control” the halftime show decision and that there’s no ill will between them.
Addressing speculation around a possible appearance during the show, Wayne confirmed he won’t be involved and will not even be in the country during the Super Bowl. He also downplayed any tension over his tweet following GNX’s release, affirming that he was “just chillin” and urging fans not to misinterpret his words.
