HEARTS Act supported by Damar Hamlin passes in the Senate

Written by on December 12, 2024

The HEARTS Act, supported by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, has passed in the Senate and is set to be signed into law by President Biden. Announced by Senator Chuck Schumer, the bipartisan legislation aims to enhance cardiac safety in schools by providing grants for CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) training, purchasing AEDs, and developing cardiac emergency response plans.

Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest during a Bills game in January 2023, has been a vocal advocate for cardiac health and safety. His recovery, attributed to prompt CPR and AED intervention by the team’s medical staff, has underscored the importance of these life-saving measures.

The HEARTS Act is designed to better prepare schools to handle cardiac emergencies, potentially saving more lives.
