Kodak Expands Film Production to Meet Rising Demand

Kodak has completed significant upgrades to its film production and finishing facilities in Rochester, to address growing demand from both commercial and consumer markets. The upgrades, which included improvements to film sensitizing, chemical manufacturing, and finishing processes, required a planned five-week shutdown. To ensure uninterrupted supply, Kodak stockpiled enough film prior to the pause.

Chief Technical Officer Terry Taber noted that demand for film, particularly in motion picture productions and among consumers, has surged. Over the past five years, consumer demand has doubled, driven by Millennials and Gen-Xers embracing disposable cameras and traditional 35mm film for events and creative control.

Kodak’s commitment to film remains steadfast, with ongoing investments in production to support the growing market. In recent years, the company has significantly bolstered its workforce, hiring hundreds of new employees and offering additional opportunities. With these upgrades, Kodak continues to solidify its role in the resurgence of analog photography and film.
