Ahead of her upcoming wedding to actor Anthony Davis, Yvette Nicole Brown opened up on the My So-Called Midlife podcast, encouraging women over 40 to embrace being single and child-free. The Good Times: Black Again star shared her journey of finding love later in life and rejecting societal pressures to marry or have children.
In her conversation with host Reshma Saujani, Brown reflected on being joyfully single in her 50s, choosing to focus on the blessings in her life rather than settling for the wrong partner. “Sometimes love happens, sometimes it doesn’t,” she said. “We’re doing women a disservice when we tell them their value lies in having a husband and children.”
Brown credited her contentment as a single woman to her mindset and figures like Tracee Ellis Ross, who normalize living joyfully without adhering to traditional expectations. She urged women to avoid settling out of fear, emphasizing that a full, rich life can be achieved with or without a partner.
Now engaged to Davis, Brown said waiting for the right person was worth it. “Find the one that gives you peace,” she advised, adding that love should bring joy and calm, not pressure.
