DMV Says: Beware Of Rising In Online Car Scams

Written by on October 25, 2024

New Yorkers are being warned of a rise of car sale scams online. According to the DMV, scammers are posting cars for sale on websites such as Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. Law enforcement is revealing that many of these cars were stolen. The scammers would alter the identification numbers and forge titles. So far, the DMV recovered over 200 stolen cars. Many of those cars were bought by victims of the scammers through online shopping sites. In order to avoid being victimized, always check to see if the seller has a title in their name, review the accuracy of the VIN number, check online if it was stolen, check the odometer reading, and do not use a temporary registration certificate or plate.
