Stop-Arm Cameras On City School Buses Could Be Coming To Rochester

Written by on October 3, 2024

The City of Rochester proposed new legislation on Wednesday that would better enforce violations regarding passing stopped school buses. The legislation, if approved, would install advanced stop-arm cameras to buses used by the Rochester City School District. According to New York State Traffic Law, a driver must stop for a school bus while its stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing. This new legislation would allow penalties to be applied to those who disobey, ranging from $250 to $300 depending on the number of offenses. The city plans to work in partnership with BusPatrol America LLC for the upgrades. Rochester City Council is slated to vote on the measure on October 22.
