American Red Cross sends Rochester-based volunteers south for Debby relief
Written by Site Hub on August 8, 2024
In response to the severe flooding caused by Tropical Storm Debby in the Southeast, the American Red Cross has dispatched volunteers from Rochester to provide aid. Approximately six volunteers are being sent, with Tim Seitz among them, heading to Jacksonville to assist at emergency shelters by providing meals and supervision. Despite flight cancellations, Seitz is prepared for the possibility of relocation, a common scenario in natural disaster responses. The Red Cross is actively involved across the U.S., aiding in Houston after Hurricane Beryl, tackling California wildfires, and addressing tornado damage in Rome, NY. Michael Tedesco of the Red Cross WNY Chapter noted the increasing frequency and impact of such disasters compared to previous decades.
