New plans in place to improve Durand Eastman Beach Park

Written by on July 24, 2024

The city of Rochester is initiating a three-part project to enhance Durand Eastman Beach Park, starting with significant upgrades to the beach house. The planned improvements will include lifeguard facilities, first aid stations, changing rooms, and showers, as the beach house has not been updated since the 2007 Master Plan.

Senior landscape architect Jeff Mroczek emphasized the necessity of these upgrades, noting the beach’s public opening in 2006. The city gathered initial feedback from visitors, who expressed a desire for better parking, improved beach access, and general amenities.

To further involve the community, a public meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 24, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Camp Eastman Kusak Lodge, with a Zoom option available. The city encourages public feedback, which can be submitted up to two weeks after the meeting. For more details about the meeting, click here.
