Robert Persichitti, a 102-year-old World War II veteran from Fairport, NY, died while traveling to Normandy, France, for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Known for his generosity and zest for life, Persichitti frequently attended WWII commemorations and shared his wartime experiences with younger generations. Pastor William Leone, a friend for 46 years, praised his vibrant spirit and dedication to educating children about history. Persichitti’s friend and travel companion, Al DeCarlo, recounted their travels, including a recent trip to the South Pacific. Persichitti fell ill during a stop in Germany and passed away peacefully in a hospital with Frank Sinatra’s music playing. He was a communications ship radioman during WWII and remained an inspiration to many until his final days.
