A boil water advisory was issued for parts of the city following the discovery of a body in the Highland Park Reservoir on the morning of March 19, 2024. The water was promptly shut off and rerouted, with police and water bureau officials responding to the scene. Initial tests indicated the water was clear of contaminants. However, out of an abundance of caution, residents in the affected areas are advised to boil their water or use bottled water until further notice. This advisory impacts a wide swath of Rochester, from the Genesee River to various streets outlined in the city’s notification. Authorities are conducting multiple water tests over 16 hours to ensure safety, emphasizing that hospital water supplies are not affected. The identity and cause of death of the adult male found in the reservoir are under investigation. Mayor Malik Evans stressed the importance of caution due to the proximity of the incident to the city’s water supply. The advisory is expected to last up to 36 hours, with residents encouraged to contact 311 for further information.
