Deep Sea Vision, a South Carolina-based ocean exploration firm, revealed intriguing sonar images suggesting they may have located Earhart’s plane in the Pacific Ocean. These images were captured by an unmanned underwater drone operated by a 16-member crew, which meticulously surveyed over 5,200 square miles of seabed from September to December. The potential find was made near Howland Island, Earhart’s intended refueling stop, and displays features resembling her Lockheed Electra aircraft. Deep Sea Vision’s founder, Tony Romeo, expressed confidence in the discovery and planned further investigations into the site. Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, vanished in 1937 while attempting to become the first woman to fly around the world, leaving behind one of history’s most baffling enigmas.
