Monroe County’s Recycling Campaign

Written by on August 8, 2023

This week, Monroe County is taking its Recycling Education Road Show to nearby farmers’ markets.
This past Sunday at the Brockport Farmers’ Market, Monroe County’s Department of Environmental Services enlightened the community on the correct methods of recycling.

Tina Stephens, the county’s waste diversion and education coordinator, emphasized the importance of proper recycling, stating: “The key is to recycle correctly, only placing materials meant for the recycling bin – such as paper, plastic, glass, and cans – inside it. Also, it’s crucial to understand that plastics should be recycled according to shape rather than number.”

The roadshow’s next stops will be at St. Monica’s Church in Rochester (831 Genesee Street, 4-7 pm) today,, Irondequoit Town Hall (1280 Titus Avenue, 4-7 pm) on Thursday, and North Chili Methodist Church (220 Westside Drive, 8 am-noon) on Saturday.

Visitors with inquiries about recycling will be gifted a free reusable bag that can be easily packed away.
