61-Year-Old Grandma Carries Child For Her Son & His Husband

Cecile Eledge, 61, gave birth to her own grandchild last week when her son and his husband, Matthew Eledge and Elliot Dougherty, wanted to expand their family.

After undergoing numerous tests to determine if she could go through with the pregnancy, Eledge volunteered to be the surrogate for her son. She said, “There was no moment of hesitation. It was natural instinct.”

The sperm was donated by Matthew Eledge and his sister-in-law donated the egg. On Monday, March 25th Eledge gave birth to five pound, 13-ounce Uma Louise Dougherty-Eledge at Nebraska Medical Center.

Happy father Matthew Eledge said, “We are really grateful that both Uma and her grandma are here, happy and healthy. For the time being, we’re just going to relax and enjoy this moment.”
