Federal Appeals Court: NYC Can Impose Vaccine Mandate on Teachers

Written by on September 28, 2021

After a federal appeals panel decision yesterday, the three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan issued an order that allows NYC to impose a vaccine mandate on teachers, a mandate that some were seeking to appeal last Friday.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announced back in August that about 148,000 school employees would have to get at least a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination by September 27th, similarly to the healthcare worker mandate. Mayor Bill de Blasio’s policy covers teachers, as well as other staffers, such as custodians and cafeteria workers.
